The materials you will need for this basket pattern are:

- Yarn: 4 rolls of natural twine yarn ( This amount is to make both baskets)(however this can change if you want to make a bigger or smaller sized baskets)
I bought mine from my local crafts store. However, I Linked a few options that are very similar to the one I used KINGLAKE 300 Feet Natural Jute Twine , Katzco Heavy Duty All Natural Jute Twine, TIAMALL 300 Feet Natural Jute Twine, Natural Jute Twine 2 Pack - Extra yarn for decoration I used ALIZE SUPERLANA saffron (code 02) and honey code 310 (you will need a few yards of each color so any left over yarn will do it)
- Hook: 4.5 mm, Stitch markers, Scissors, Measuring tape. Here is a set with one of my favorite hooks sets along with stitch markers and needles
For the base of the basket you may choose one of the following options:
- If you have some extra t-shirt yarn laying down you may use it so that you cut your crocheting time in half instead of working for 20 rounds for example with jute yarn I worked for 7 rounds for the bigger basket and 6 rounds for the smaller one! and don’t worry its not gonna show that you are using t-shirt yarn at the base!
- The second option is to buy extra twine than what the pattern calls for and work your base with a regular sc circle pattern till you reach the desired circle diameter.
- Or you can use a wooden Basket base, like I previously did with this basket
MEASUREMENTS
Triangle basket:
base =25 cm/9.8′ height= 22 cm 8.6′
Tassels basket:
Base=20 cm/7.8′ height= 20 cm 7.8′
GAUGE
you won’t need gauge for this project; However, 11 stitches and 7 hdc rows = 4″ [10 cm].
Skill level: Beginner
Abbreviations and Glossary (US Terms):
ch – chain
sc- single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
ss- slip stitch
Notes:
- The pattern is written in us terms.
- You can adjust the size of the basket by working more rounds either on the base or while working on the height of the basket.
INSTRUCTIONS:
With t-shirt yarn
Round 1. 8 sc in magic ring {8}
Round 2. Two sc in each sc from the previous round {16}.
Round 3. * sc in one stitch, Inc * repeat from * to* till the end of the round {24}
Round 4. * sc in the next 2 stitches,Inc*. Repeat from * to* till the end of the round {32}
Round 5. *sc in the next 3 stitches,Inc*. Repeat from * to* till the end of the round {40}
Round 6. *sc in the next 4 stitches,Inc*. Repeat from * to* till the end of the round {48}
Skip round 7 if you are going to make the smaller basket
Round 7. *sc in the next 5 stitches, Inc*. Repeat from * to* till the end of the round {56}
Using double strands, Attach twine yarn to your base
Round 8. *2 sc in the first stitch, 1sc in the next* repeat from *to* till the end of the round.
Round 9. 1 sc in each stitch from the previous round.
If you are using a wooden basket base you are going to do the exact same thing. 2 sc in one hole and one sc in the next hole (Here is a video to show you how to crochet in the holes)
Finally if you have made the base using twine yarn working with double strands You are going to skip the previous two rounds and move directly to the next Round.
We will start to work on the height of the basket.
Round 10. chain 1 and work 1 hdc in each sc form the previous round. Put a stitch marker in your first stitch and keep moving it with you from round to the next.
Round 11. Reverse the direction of the round. ch1 and work one hdc in each stitch in the round.
Round 12. Reverse the direction of the round again. ch1 and work one hdc in each stitch in the round.
Keep alternation between round 11 and 12 till you reach your desired Height.
For the bigger basket I had total 16 rounds (with jute yarn). For the smaller one I made 14 rounds with jute and an extra two sc rounds with the other yarn.
Cut yarn and weave in ends
Decoration:
Triangle Basket:
Using ALIZE SUPERLANA maxi saffron (code 02), or any 6 weight (super bulky yarn) of your choice
Ch 26
Row 1. Sc in the second chain from the hook and each chain you will have 25 stitches
Row 2. ch1 (which will be considered as a stitch through out this triangle pattern so you are going to sc in the second stitch from the hook and in the next 22 stitches sc the last two stitches together.
Row 3. ch1, sc in the next 20 stitches. Sc the last sc and the ch one from the previous round together.
Row 4. ch1, sc the next 18 stitches. Sc the last sc and the ch one from the previous round together.
Row 5. ch1, sc in the next 16 stitches. Sc the last sc and the ch one from the previous round together.
Row 6. ch, sc the next 14 stitches. Sc the last sc and the ch one from the previous round together.
Row 7. ch1, sc in the next 12 stitches. Sc the last sc and the ch one from the previous round together.
Row 8. ch1, sc in the next 10 stitches. Sc the last sc and the ch one from the previous round together.
Row 9. ch1, sc in the next 8 stitches. Sc the last sc and the ch one from the previous round together.
Row 10. ch1, sc in the next 6 stitches. Sc the last sc and the ch one from the previous round together.
Row11. ch1, sc the next 4 stitches. Sc the last sc and the ch one from the previous round together.
Row 12. ch1, sc in the next 2 stitches. Sc the last sc and the ch one from the previous round together.
Row15. Ch1 Single crochet the two stitches together.
Work one last sc finishing row around the three edges of the triangle ( working one sc in each row from the sides and in each chain space from you starting chain on the top edge.
Now you have to cut 35 (or as many as you wish to cover the sides of your triangle) that are about 30 cm (12 inches) long to make the fringes. (make sure to cut it longer than your desired length so that you have room to trim it to you desired length)
Here’s how to attach your fringes. so that you have them facing downwards instead of flaring to the side
The last step in this basket is to attach the triangle to the basket using a large tapestry needle and the same yarn you worked your triangle with.
leave one row from the top edge of the box then attach the triangle on the next row. I only sewed along the top edge of the triangle. but if your wish you can sew along the three edges.
2. Decorative tassels basket:
- Attach the second yarn and work two more rounds of single crochet
- Then check this tutorial for the decorative tassels
- And simply attach them a you see in the pictures bellow,
insert your tassel tail to the basket from the outside tie it from the inside tightly a few times weave in ends and cut excess yarn
Finally If you want you can cut a round piece of burlap fabric and put it at the base of your basket
I hope you liked this crochet pattern. If you made one, share it with me on Instagram. I would love to see how you adapted it and what variations and colors you used 🙂
