Crochet Ramadan Lantern – Free Wall Hanging Pattern

Hey Everybody! Today I have a Crochet Ramadan Lantern pattern for you. If you have read any of my previous posts or the about me page you may know that am Egyptian and Muslim. And as I write this it’s the first day in Ramadan! I honestly didn’t plan earlier to make this pattern. But as I was sitting yesterday the idea for this pattern popped in my mind. I went directly to my yarn stash, picked some yarn and immediately started so that I can make it and hang it before the first day of Ramadan! Which is today. And I did it. It took me a couple of hours. So basically this may be the fastest pattern I have worked from the idea to the result!

Now let’s take you directly to this crochet wall hanging pattern

The materials you will need for this crochet wall hanging are:

Measurements:

  • Sizing: Approx 22″ (Including the fringes) x 12″ [56 cm x 30 cm].

Guage:

  • Gauge: 16 sc and 16 rows = 4″ [10 cm].

Skill level: Beginner

Abbreviations and Glossary (US Terms):

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • bo- Bobble stitch: Watch this tutorial for the method I used to change colors with the bobble stitches
Yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch and pull up a loop. Yarn over, pull through two loops. as if you are doing the first part of a double crochet (DC) (2 loops on the hook); repeat it until you have 5 HDC on your hook and 1 initial loop (total 6 loops on the hook); yarn over and pull through all 6 loops (1 loop on the hook – pull pretty tight, so your bobble really pops up); and sc in the next stitch.

Notes:

  • The pattern is written in us terms.
  • The pattern starts from the bottom and ends at the top
  • You will work all stitches in creme except the bobble stitches.
  • You can adjust the dimensions of the wall hanging by adding or subtracting rows up and down and. Or chains form right and left.
  • Your stitch count through out the whole pattern will be 41 stitches
  • For the rows that does not have bobbles you can either work the entire row over the saffron yarn so that you can pick it up the next row. or you can cut the yarn by the end of each bobble row and re attach it at the start of the next bobble row.

HI! I absolutely love this pattern, I’m hoping to make it for an arabic class project. Would it still work if I used a bulky yarn for the accent color? (the yellow) Thank you so much!
